Echoes of Never – available for pre-order

Book cover for Echoes of Never by Jessica Meats

Travelling through the multi-universes, Gareth hunts for his infant son. He was taken by someone that Gareth trusted. Abby travelled back in time to prevent a future cataclysm, abducted the baby, and took him through a mysterious, rainbow portal.

In his search, he finds new versions of lost friends who can help him in this quest, which will lead him to the strangest place he’s ever experienced.

For among the multi-universes, there is a place unconnected to the other universes and with its own timeline, known as the Shadow World. There, waits the Abomination, a man who can perceive potential timelines and manipulate the worlds around him. He knows Gareth is coming for his son. He planned for this.

When he finally faces the Abomination, there is one question Gareth must answer: how much is he willing to sacrifice to get his son back?

Echoes of Never, the final book in the Shadows of Tomorrow trilogy, is now available for pre-order from the publisher’s website. You may be able to order it elsewhere too. Waterstone’s has a listing for it with an option to order but at the moment the Amazon page is just a listing with “currently unavailable”.

The book is due for release on 26th November 2020.

Echoes of Never continues the story begun in Shadows of Tomorrow and Between Yesterdays, a story of other timelines, other times, and creatures breaking through from another universe.

Patreon

As the third book in the Shadows of Tomorrow trilogy is going through the publication process, this seems like a good time to remind people that I have a Patreon. If you support me at any level, you get insights into my writing and publishing process, as well as updates about how these things are going and some pieces of original fiction not otherwise available. I will also be doing the cover art reveal to Patrons a couple of weeks ahead of doing it to the rest of the world, and giving Patrons a sneak peek at the book ahead of its publication.

Supporting me on Patreon is another way to get my books. Depending on the level of support, you can get access to e-book or signed physical copies of some or all of my books. Support starts at $1 and that will get you e-book copies of The Adventures of Technicality Man and A Monster’s Kindness. Supporting at higher tiers will get you copies of my other books and merchandise like book bags and patches with this amazing Werewolves Are People Too artwork by Christopher Hoyle.

If you like my writing and you want to show your support, please do consider becoming a patron.

I’m still developing my patreon, so if there’s something you would love to see me do as a reward for patrons, let me know. I’m open to ideas and suggestions.

Patreon

I am launching a new Patreon if you want to support my work. I’ve looked into Patreon before but never made a serious effort at it, so this new Patreon is me starting afresh.

You can sign up for as little as $1 and that will get you access to the patron-only feed, updates about upcoming works, early information about things like cover art, and, probably more importantly, an ebook copy of The Adventures of Technicality Man. Higher tiers will also give you access to my other books. If you sign up to the $5 tier, you can get ebooks of my Codename Omega series, and the higher tiers will get you physical copies of those books and my other works.

For most of the tiers, I will be sending the books out one a month until you’ve received all the rewards for that tier, and then new books as they are published. The reason for this was that I didn’t want someone signing up for a higher tier, receiving all the reward books, and then backing out, since that could end up costing me a lot of money.

I will also be offering book-related merchandise like bookmarks, tote bags, and printed cards. These will be sent out as regular rewards if you sign up for the higher subscriptions, so you will continue to get rewards between new book released. You will also have the option to prompt me and receive personlised short stories based on those prompts. Some of these may get published at a later date if I feel they’re good enough, but others may remain as patron-only.

I will be posting some bits of writing exclusively to patrons, including short-stories, background pieces of writing, and bits that ended up being cut for the published books. For example, in the Codename Omega series, I attempted a few different starts to that series, including one version that started the story from Navy’s perspective when he first meets Nuke. I plan on dusting off that piece of writing and making it available to patrons on the Patreon.

This is all pretty new for me, so I would appreciate any support you can give. If you are unable to support financially, I would really appreciate if you could share the Patreon links on social media.

If you can sign up, I will send you your free ebook of The Adventures of Technicality Man. I’m running a special offer for the launch. If you sign up at the $1 level before the end of August, I will also send all patrons a free ebook of Omega Rising, the first book in the Codename Omega series, which would normally be one of the higher-tier rewards.

Writing Advice: Selling at Conventions

In this video, I offer some advice for selling books at sci-fi and fantasy conventions, a lot of which is also applicable to book fairs, Christmas fairs, village fetes, and anywhere else you might get a table for a few hours to sell your books.

There’s some general advice and tips from my experience. I’d hope some of it, like being nice to people, would be obvious, but it doesn’t hurt to say it.

In convention news, I will be at Bath Comic Con, on 23rd March 2019. It’s in the Bath Assembly Rooms and I will have a table in the ball room if anyone wants to come along and talk to me about books, writing, or fandom in general.

Blog Tour

Is anyone interested in participating in a blog tour?

My next novel, Wolf Unleashed, will be launching around Easter this year, published by Guardbridge Books. When the time comes, I plan to do a blog tour to get the word out – author interviews, guest posts, that sort of thing. If you write science fiction or fantasy books of the sort I discuss on this blog, I’m happy to talk about doing an exchange if you want to do something on this blog to promote your work.

Wolf Unleashed is set in a world like our own, but with werewolves existing as an abused and enslaved underclass. Crystal’s step-brother was bitten by a werewolf and in trying to find out what happened to him, she teams up with the rebellious werewolf Thomas to challenge the established order. With a black, bisexual protagonist and a diverse mix of characters, it explores both real and allegorical themes of prejudice, while still telling a fantasy adventure.

If you’re interested in participating in this blog tour, leave a comment below or contact me via one of the methods on the Contact Me page above.

Queer Reading List Giveaway

In 2017, I launched my queer reading list. This is a list of sci-fi and fantasy book recommendations with strong LGBTQ+ representation. You can filter by different representation types to find books that feature characters with specific identities or sexualities.

Each month in 2018, I will be giving away a book of the winner’s choice from the reading list. You can enter the giveaway through the year and at the end of each month, a winner will be chosen at random from that month’s entries and that person will get to choose a book from the list as their prize.

There are two ways to enter this giveway.

  1. Reblog the Tumblr post.
  2. Suggest a new book for the reading list. You can fill out this form to make a recommendation (or this form if you’re an author and want to recommend your own books). The only criteria are that the book is sci-fi or fantasy, there is strong queer representation (i.e. not just a token character in the background), and that you enjoyed reading it.

Each new book recommended counts as a separate entry to the giveaway and you can recommend as many books as you like.

Please check before making a recommendation that the book isn’t already on the list, and please include as much detail as you can about the representation within the book (this makes it easier to correctly categorise them for the filters).

Please also make sure you include a way for me to contact you in the suggestion form – email address or Tumblr username. This contact information will only be used to inform the winner that they’ve won and communicate about their prize.

Jenny Harding has no money, no qualifications and no career history. A job working security for a big tech firm seems too good to be true. Maybe it is.

She is tasked with hunting down a group of thieves who have been stealing sensitive technology. Caught up in a battle involving alien forces, Jenny has some important questions to answer:
Who are the thieves?
What’s their real purpose?
And is she on the right side?

Omega Rising is available to buy on Amazon (UK link, US link). The Codename Omega series is continued in Traitor in the Tower (UK link, US link) and Hidden in the Signal (UK link, US link).

Cover Art Reveal: The Adventures of Technicality Man

The Adventures of Technicality Man cover

Everyone knows how the stories are supposed to go. The good guys win in the end, the hero ends up with the designated love interest, and the plucky band of misfits pulls together to save the world.

But what happens when a villain targets the nature of stories themselves? All the tropes that the heroes have come to rely on are under threat.

Technicality Man and his trusty companion Continuity Leopard must join forces with a group of minor heroes to save the day. They won’t let any barrier stop them. Not even the fourth wall.

My new superhero parody, The Adventures of Technicality Man, is now available for pre-order from Amazon (UK link, US link). This is the story of a ragtag bunch of heroes and a lot of ridiculous puns.

So join Technicality Man, Continuity Leopard as they fight to make sure that the good guys will always win.

October giveaway

A Rational Arrangement coverI’ve talked about my diverse book giveaways in previous posts. October’s giveaway is A Rational Arrangement by L Rowyn. I’ve written a review of this book in an earlier post.

I picked this book because it ticks a lot of diversity boxes. One of the main characters is an autistic woman, the other two are bisexual men. One thing I especially liked about this story is the way it handles mental illness. Nik has the magical ability to heal mental illness, and the way the book handles the subject is very respectful, it also differentiates between the illnesses Nik treats and a condition like autism. At one point, Nik is asked if he plans to heal Wisteria of her autism and Nik’s response is that her condition is part of who she is and not a sickness to be cured with the line, “Personality is not a disease.”

If you want a chance to win this book, head over to Tumblr and reblog the giveaway post.

September’s diverse book giveaway

Every Heart a Doorway coverEvery month in 2016 I’m giving away a different science fiction or fantasy book that highlights some form of diversity (preferably more than one). September’s book is the charming Every Heart a Doorway which I have reviewed in a previous blog post.

I chose this book for its LGBTQ representation. The protagonist is asexual, and actually uses this word to describe herself which is astonishingly rare. Another major character in the book is trans. There is an incident of transphobic language from one of the other characters but this is clearly addressed by the narrative and the other characters as being unacceptable behaviour.

If you want a chance to win this book, head over to Tumblr and reblog the giveaway post before the end of September.
