School Visits

I do talks at schools about books and writing. These vary from small group discussions of around ten people all the way up to auditorium-style talks to more than a hundred students. I can adjust the talks depending on the audience, but they are generally about an hour in length and cover: my books, writing in general, and encouraging the students to try creative writing for fun. The age range for these talks (and my books in general) is from year 7 upwards.

I am based in Reading, Berkshire. I don’t charge for school visits, but unless your school is very close to me, I would ask that you cover reasonable travel expenses. I would also ask for an opportunity to sell books to any students who might be interested.

Library Talks, Book Fairs and Conventions

I also do talks for other events. These talks can vary from general discussions of my books and writing, to specific discussions on topics such as:

• Diversity in science fiction
• Strong female characters
• Writing near-future science fiction
• LGBTQ fiction
• Traditional verses self-publishing
• Writing for the young adult market

This is not an exhaustive list. If you want me to do a talk on a subject that you think might be appropriate, please do ask.

I would normally ask that travel expenses be covered for these talks, but I may make an exception depending on the nature or size of the event, as well as the distance likely to be involved. If you are interested in having me do a talk, send me an email with the details at jessmeats@hotmail.com.

Blog interviews, guest posts, and articles

I am usually happy to do posts, interviews and articles for other blogs and sites. Here are some examples of ones I’ve done in the past:
